The building if approved will be devloped by SL Green and will bring $210mm much needed infrastructure improvements to the area in exchange for being allowed to build twice the as of right height.
Mayor Bloomberg had championed a proposed rezoning of Midtown East which would have allowed taller towers so owners could build more modern buildings to compete with the office stock in other parts of Manhattan. It had stalled just before he left office.
According to preservationists, the upzoning will meet the destruction of many beautiful, historic Beaux-arts buildings in the Grand Central vicinty and add more Dubai like super talls to our skyline.
